A pensioner who ran over her husband then drove off has avoided jail after a court heard they are still in love.

Her husband had multiple fractures after she ran him down on a rural road in May.

Judge Gary Burrell told Southampton crown court their 50-year marriage was “marred by violence, mainly by him”.

In 2004 he reportedly kicked her head and once allegedly tried to choke her.

Mrs Stickland, of Langley, Hants, admitted GBH but her husband said he could not bear it if she was jailed.

Solicitor Janet Brownlow said: “They still love each other deeply and understand the reasons behind the sentence.”

The mum-of-three must now live with her son.
