Montel Williams has opened a medical cannabis dispensary in Midtown.   William’s,a long standing  medical marijuana advocate .

In a press conference , he spoke of his own treatments for multiple scleriosis and why he turned to marijuana to alleviate near-constant neurological pain.    ” I found the prescription drugs nearly shut down my kidneys”   I found a doctor who suggested that he try medical marijuana for the effects on his progressive multiple scleriosis.  After smoking pot, he claims his well being inproved.

The midtown store “Abatin Wellness Cooperative” will not have plants of display.  What patents will see are Mahogany would counter, marble countertops.  A flat screen will playing a marijuana documentary narrated by Mr Williams.

Patients needs to have permits and papers, they will meet with a counselor every time they come in for medicine.

His goal is to shake up the industry. He wants to end the cottage industry of medical pot doctors,who he says ink referrals with no regard for patients; discontinued the silly naming of cannabis strains and stop people from using rolling papers ” if they’re smoking blunts with Tobacco, “I’m sorry, homey, but I’m going to get you off that”

Ultimately, he aspires to be a  pot pioneer who changes how the world view marijuana, which is bound to inspire and also ruffle feathers. He’s already done so here in Sacramento by opening shop.

Some fear his celebrity status will hurt other centers.      Others question wheather he should be allowed to operates a dispensary in the city which  has a moratorium on new clubs and an ordinance disallowing transfer of ownership.

Mr Williams say’s he is simply “consulting” at Abatin, and that Aundre Speciale who owned the club remains on as “executive director”

The new Abatin was the former home of the Capital Wellness Cooperative. (the permit was transferred from Capital to Abatin)   A group of five vendors came to the dispensary opening day to inquire about what they claim is thousands of dollars owed for marijuana provided to Capital.

Mickey Martin who owns medical-cannabis consulting firm, T-Comp in the Bay Area says he is owed $20,000 from Capitol Wellness and that Abatin is in violation of Sacramento’s ordinance, which states that any dispensary that closes for more than 30 days will have its permit revoked.
