Melvin Gabriel Flemings 22, was a popular basketball coach at El Camino High School in Sacramento. For nearly four months he worked closely with parents and their children at the high school.
In Febuary, he was arrested on suspicion of misconduct with a student at the school. Many outraged parents and students, believed in him, appearing in mass at his initial hearing. With one emotional parent saying “He’s the type of adult you want your child to spend time with” He has shown nothing but respect for the team and their parents.” calling him a role model, support was large, on local newscast mothers tearfully shouted foul! “there was no way this fine young man would do this”
Yesteday, he was re-arrested as six other young men have come forward.
Mr Flemings gained the trust of the victims. The sexual contact usually happened at his home and many of the events were filmed.
Melvin Gabriel Flemings coached other children throughout Sacramento. The children, ranging in age from 14 to 17 has come forward, bringing the total to seven. There are some in the Sacramento Sheriff’s department believe there could be more children.
The new alligations will have a chilling effect on all the people he has come in contact with. In this age of instant media where most of the news is negative, it is difficult to trust. They believed in the young man.
Every parent who’s child has come in contact with Mr Flemings will look at their child and wonder, some may ask and others blaming themselves may not want to know.
The alligations may not be true, Mr Flemings could be innocent.
However, from this day forward, Melvin Gabriel Flemings has forever altered the trust of parents and children who once believed in him.
