Porn films leave young Frenchmen with complex

Watching porn is not good for the confidence of young Frenchmen it seems.

A study that looks into the impact of pornographic films on the sex lives and psyche of the French people has revealed that many young men have been left with a complex over the size of their penis and more and more French couples are making sex tapes.

Watching porn films is not good for the confidence of young French men, it seems.

According to a new survey by polling agency Ifop into the impact of viewing porn movies on the psyche  and sexual habits of French people more than a third of Frenchmen under the age of 25 admitted to having a complex about the size of their penis when watching X-rated movies.

This insecurity apparently decreases with age: If 34 percent of 18 to 24 year-olds feel inadequate when watching porn, that number falls to 14 percent among the over 65s.

Overall, of the 90 percent of male respondents who admitted watching porn, 24 percent, felt inadequate when watching the professionals at work.

“If the French maintain a certain distance between reality and the plastic “out of the ordinary” presented in porn movies, the sight of the over-sized male organs can increase anxiety among young men,” Ifop concluded.

It might not just be watching porn that has given young Frenchmen a complex. A 2012 study in penis sizes revealed that Frenchmen on average have smaller penises than their British, Swedish and German counterparts. Although the study did conclude that Frenchmen have typically bigger penises than Americans.

The insecurity among young Frenchmen appears heightened by the fact that 61 percent of 18 to 24s believe that the size of the male sexual organ plays a key role in being a successful lover.

The survey also revealed that almost half of French couples tried to recreate scenes they had watched in porn films.

And watching porn appears to be encouraging more and more French people to try their hand at making their own movies.

Around 11 percent of couples admit to making a sex tape, which represents almost double (6 percent) the number who were making home-movies back in 2009.

When it comes to watching porn, 60 percent of French people have viewed it, while one in ten do it on a regular basis.

In 2008 a 600-page study by France’s National Research Agency on AIDS revealed the changing sexual habits of French people with both the number partners and diversity of sexual activity having significantly increased in recent years, Time magazine reported.

Although that may not come as a surprise one interesting evolution revealed by the study was how French women had nearly caught up to their male counterparts in terms of the number of lovers they have and the age of initiation and variety of acts engaged in.

The study concluded the drop in inhibitions was mainly down to the ease of accessing X-rated content on the internet.
