The San Antonio Spars beat the Miami Heat after five games. The win was decisive, early in the first quarter the Miami lead by 16 points. It clear by the third quarter the Spurs were fully in control , in the end they took it 104 to 87.
I missed game one of the finals in San Antonio, when Air Conditioning malfunctions. One member of the Heat, couldn’t take the Heat and with all the ice the Arena could find couldn’t cool Lebron James.
I had an epiphany by game three after watching both benches and how the teams reacted to each other. With Miami. there is a clear hierarchy with Labron being the King. following Lebron was Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh and Ray Allen, with others playing a secondary role.
On the other side of the floor there was more of a comradery a brotherhood. Yes there are stars….Duncan, Parker, Ginobili who seem to interact with the rest of the team.
I am reminded of the 2003-04 Sacramento Kings, Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, and Peja Stojakovic. I couldn’t name three player from the 2013 Kings and I went to over a dozen games. But I still remember Chris Christie, Brad Miller and Bobby Jackson. Like the Spurs, it seemed to be more about the team and less about points.
Team development seems more important than developing stars with the Spurs. Players like Patty Mills, Kawhi Leonard, and Damion James, might have been ignored on other teams.
With their victory over the Miami Heat, the season is over.
Congratulations to the San Antonio Spurs
