Re-Introducing “Kelly Clarkson”


15 years ago, a 20 year old Kelly Clarkson gave us soul and went on to become the first American Idol 

 

Kelly was quickly signed by RCA.  Her first single “A moment like this” was the best selling single of 2002

RCA didn’t want soul. RCA (A division of Sony Records) wanted pop.   Kelly cut ties with American Idol management had a narrow view of what a pop star could be. 

RCA wanted her to stick to pop, Clarkson wanted to expand.  She went Rock and had some success, but as far as the execs were concerned, pop was her wheelhouse.

Nearly 15 years and 25 million albums sold 

3 Grammys

3 MTV Music Video Awards

4 American Music Awards

2 Academy of Country Music Awards

 

She walked over to Aretha’s old home at Atlantic Records

Atlantic said, if you wanna do soul come on down*

 

Re-introducing Kelly Clarkson

 

Meaning of Life, her first Album with Atlantic drops October 27th.  See you at the Grammy’s
