We all have to live by the decisions we make.   Decisions based on principle and what we think is fair.

Like it or not there are mechanisms in place.  Rules to follow.

There are some of us who question the system.   There is a price to be paid for those of us who challenge the system .  Choosing to chart our own path

Nearly 10 years ago, Mo’Nique Angela Imes (Hicks) was offered Fifty Thousand Dollars to play Mary Lee Johnson in  “Lee Daniels” “Precious” some might say a role of a lifetime. None of the studios was interested in the film.  Lee Daniels the director of the film believed “Precious” would go straight  to video.   With the help of Oprah Winfrey,Tyler Perry and others, a  distributor “Lionsgate” was found.

After the movie was released, Mo’Nique refused the promote “Precious”.  She said, she was not contractually required.  Artists typically are involved in the promotion of the movie.  Expenses for promoting the film is paid for by the studio.  It is believed, Mo”Nique and her manager  husband Sidney Hicks, wanted to be paid for all their appearances, including any red carpet appearances

Co Star, Gabourey Sidibe who was nominated for Best Actress, helped promote Precious.  Since Precious ,Sidibe has appeared in eight films and dozen television shows. She is currently featured  in Lee Daniels “Empire”.  Mo’Nique has appeared in three films and two television shows.

Since Precious, Mo’Nique  said she was blackballed and bullied.   A victim of racial and gender bias.  “ for eight years my family has suffered and my career has suffered because I would not allow those entities to bully me.   What is missing from her narrative is her contribution to her plight.

Its difficult to sympathize with her when say says her family has suffered or is suffering when turns down a half million dollars payday.

In Entertainment, one year is a lifetime.  Mo’Nique has been absent for nearly 10 years. Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony winner Whoopi Goldberg ( a women who has appeared in nearly 100 films)  recently told Mo’Nique on “The View”  ” when you make a movie, regardless of who you sign the deal with, your job is to go and promote said movie.”

It’s difficult to find sympathy when ego clashes with reality. Legends with a huge body of work,  Franklin, Knight, Goldberg, Warwick, Ross, Bassett, and LaBelle, are unlikely to command the pay of a Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart , Amy Schumer or new comer Tiffany Haddish.

Mo’Nique is a talent. I think she missed an opportunity to become relevant again,.  An opportunity to introduce herself to a new audience.  Most of the Millennials where small children when Precious was released .

She is currently on her second phase of her Netflix victimization tour.  Fighting with those who disagree with her.   In her tour, she reminds the listener of the villains in her life, Netflix, Lee Daniels, Oprah Winfrey, and Tyler Perry, successful entities and individuals collecting checks.    I’m not sure what her strategy or exit plan is?    I’ve learned to look up, to the individuals who have gone before me.   Its seems Mo’Nique is determined to chart her own path.

Moved to the Big Tomata in the nineties from San Francisco. No Suburbs for me with its single colored houses and lawns and the excitement of pulling out my trash can once a week. I'm a CityFella , a part time New Yorker. I'm happiest in the Center City where people the streets and people are alive. I'm still waiting to buy a 34th floor condo somewhere downtown/Midtown with a nightclub. "Hurry I'm old" My politics are somewhere in the middle with a needle that constantly moves. I'm too liberal to be a Republican and too conservative to be a Democrat. Everything interests me . I've come to love Sacratomato, Its a nice town in cheap sensible shoes .
