South Lake Tahoe says stay away

Lake Tahoe Activities - Things To Do in South Lake Tahoe

The Tahoe Basin, which sits in California and Nevada is a popular tourist destination.  The area has struggled to keep tourists away despite California’s stay-at-home order.

As El Dorado County continues moving into Stage 2 of reopening, more and more businesses are opening their doors, including dine-in restaurants, provided they meet certain safety requirements.

While this applies to South Lake Tahoe, as well, it doesn’t apply to tourists or people coming to the city for nonessential travel. The city put into place a $1,000 fine for short-term renters to curb nonessential travel to the region.

South Lake Tahoe Mayor Jason Collin said he could not estimate when the city might reopen to tourists. “I can almost guarantee we won’t be open by Memorial Day,” he said.

Beaches will reopen this weekend.  Parking areas, restrooms will be closed.  Only Tahoe area boats with a Tahoe sticker will be allowed on the lake.

However, that’s on the Cailfornia side.  On the Nevada side resturants and other business are open.  The Casinos are closed .
