Jan. 29, 2019: Smollett is allegedly attacked at 2 a.m. near his apartment in Chicago. Two masked assailants poured “an unknown chemical substance” on him, possibly bleach, and wrapped a rope around his neck, he told police. In a follow-up interview with police, Smollett alleges that the attackers yelled “MAGA country,” a reference to President Donald Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ slogan.
Jan. 30, 2019: Chicago police announce in a tweet that they are seeking two persons of interest who were captured on surveillance video near the scene and around the time of the alleged attack.

Jussie Smollett’s last worldwide performance. He didn’t believe he would see the inside of a jail cell. He’s a celebrity! A celebrity who committed a hate crime hoax. Even when his story collapsed, the payoff check to the Nigerians, the purchase of the MAGA hat, he maintained his innocence.
He squandered a once in a lifetime opportunity, to say I’m sorry, I apologize to the court and the Police Department the people of Chicago and to my loving friends and family. He would have to serve his time in jail but that remorse may have preserved whats left of his career,. Perhaps, a producer hearing this, might consider casting him after he has served his time.
I’m a fan of Mr Smollett, I want him to win. As a human being, I know how embarrassing it is to be caught in a lie. I know how difficult it is, to dig deep and find the humility to apologize to those you purposely mislead. It’s part of the journey, our growth and over time,most of us learn from these human errors.
Unfortunately, what we saw, and what the world saw,was an arrogant, narcissist, unrepentant former soap star in denial. He invoked and compared his plight to the struggle of Black people and the struggle of Gay people!
Mr Smollett’s wealth, allowed him to hire good representation. As a result he will serve less than six month in Jail, instead of three years. He doesn’t have to live in Illinois to serve out his probation Mr Smollett can live anywhere in America, and check-in with his probation officer by phone.
It is unlikely, his friends and family has participated in the sentencing portion of the trial.
The following represents, just a portion of Cook County Judge James Linn rebuke of Jussie Smollett before his sentencing.
“Let me tell you, Mr. Smollett, I know that there is nothing that I will do here today that can come close to the damage you have already done to your own life. You’ve turned your life upside down by your misconduct and shenanigans. You wanted to make yourself more famous, and for a while it worked. Everybody was talking about you. The lights were on you.”Your very name has become an adverb for lying, and I cannot imagine what can be worse than that… You’re the butt of jokes. Comedians, mainstream talk show hosts, they make jokes about you. They do sketches about you. I can’t imagine anything worse than that.
At the hearing, Mr Smollett shouted! I am not suicidal, and if anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself, and you must all know that!
Rarely, is everyone satisfied by the results of the trial. Was the sentence too severe or not severe enough? His council said they plan to appeal, which could take a year or more. What is clear, Jussie Smollett will serve his time at the Cook County Jail.
