How can they legally discriminate in 2019?

In Virginia and many other states, it is legal for private employers to discriminate on the basis of sexual and gender identity.

It is a challenging climb, but we will get to the mountain top.

Love in Pennsylvania?

President Trump loves the road.  If he could just run his administration out of a Luxury Coach, life would be swell.  He could cuss his staff out over the phone, no sour faces.  He could tour states like Montana and Kentucky where they love him   No rules, no you need to say…….  No you have too’s……. No boring teleprompters.  Just entertaining his base.  Being, High school inappropriate, irrelevant.  Working the crowd, ” Lock her up”

At a rally on Saturday, in an airport hanger in Murphysboro, Illionis a small town  (population 8000) over 300 miles from Chicago.  He was a bit subdued.   A few hours to the east, a City and a nation was grieving

The president had told reporters to expect a more muted rally performance.

For the first time, Trump didn’t break out his usual,  “Lock her Up” (a crowd favorite )  His performance WAS muted.   He went after Elizabeth Warren, but it was a mild attack, in which he conceded he couldn’t use his trademark moniker for her since she took an ancestry test. “No, I can’t use ‘Pocahontas’ anymore,”

This was difficult for him.  He knows his audience, this is were he gets the love.  They love the attacks, the insults.  But this night, the handlers said, we need you to be respectful, so bring it down and we mean it!!!

Remember this date, October 27, 2018

After 10 minutes he told the excited crowd.  “If you don’t mind, I’m going to tone it down just a little bit,” “Is that OK?”   The crowd responded NO!!!

“I had a feeling you might say that.”, said the President with a small smile.

“Paris is Burning”

The guys who aren’t any fun has told The President he has to go to Paris, or Pittsburgh.  The midterms are a week away, his poll numbers are crashing and could pull the party down.    Unlike, Montana, Kentucky, and Murphysboro there will be fewer people in red hats.   For nearly two years, Trump has avoided blue areas like Pittsburgh, in fact he has avoided most of America.

More than 44,000 people have signed an open letter from progressive Jewish leaders saying President Trump is not welcome in Pittsburgh until he denounces white nationalism.

He isn’t going to denounce white nationalism, after declaring himself a nationalist.  Throughout the day, moments before he addresses the Tragedy in Pittsburgh, his team is looking for a response that they hope will get them through next Tuesday.

There is a mobilization via Social Media.  Pittsburgh is few hours drive from New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and Washington DC.  Is there Love in Pennsylvania for the President?

Throwback Thursday: In 2006, a Charismatic pastor, author, was against gays and gay marriage, until the world learned he was having gay affair and possibly doing meth. His nickname was the Crystal Methodist.

Time magazine said, he was one of the top 25 most influential evangelicals in America.  His first church met in his basement of his home. his congregation was a devoted twenty two people,  grew into one of the largest churches in Colorado over 14,000 members.

The pastor had strong views about homosexuality..  In 2006, he and his church supported Colorado’s Amendment 43:  The law only recognized a union of a man and a woman.

Sex,Lies and Coverups

Late 2006, a small story about a male prostitute and a pastor of a mega church in Colorado went National.   The prostitute slash masseur said the pastor has been seeing each other for three years, the gentleman said the pastor used meth.    The pastor denied the affair and admitted to buying the meth, BUT threw it away!

Initially, the prostitute didn’t know the pastors identity.  He came forward after seeing the pastor on television supporting Colorado’s prop 43.  “It made me angry that here’s someone preaching against gay marriage and going behind the scenes having gay sex!”

“I did not have a homosexual relationship with a man in Denver”

After months of denials the pastor admitted to having “some” sex with the prostitute and another man who attended his church.

He was fired by the “Overseer” Board of the church he started.  The board wanted him out of Colorado. After weeks of intensive counseling with the churches ministers to help him get in touch with his heterosexual side, the pastor was deemed “completely heterosexual’

Initially the pastor had a lot of support from many in the evangelical community. With one leaders saying  It is unconscionable that the legitimate news media would report a rumor like this based on nothing but one man’s accusation….It appears someone is trying to damage his reputation as a way of influencing the outcome of the election especially the vote on Colorado’s marriage-protection amendment, which he strongly supports.”  Over time support for the well known Pastor faded.

‘Lies from the Church”

The church may not have known about the prostitute ,but they did know about an incident with a male member of the church because they bought his silence. They paid the young man $179,000 to cover his counseling and his college tuition back in 2006.  The young man said the contact was not consensual.

“Where are the Cameras?”

While others would have disappeared from public life, Pastor Ted Haggard was a constant fixture on TV.   Oprah,to Larry King  and various news shows, he took on those who called him a hypocrite .   But not just news shows, he and his wife Gayle have appeared on reality TV.  Divorce Court, Where he said, he wanted his wife to divorce him after the scandal, saying that he thought he had become so “toxic” that divorce was best.    Celebrity Wife Swap, where he swapped wives with Gary Busey.

“High in Colorado”

New Life, Mega Church the church Ted Haggard founded, is a shell of itself.  Brady Boyd, the Pastor who succeeded Haggard at New Life disclosed information about the scandal  to the New York Times, nearly three years after Haggard was fired.

In November of 2009  with the severance deal of the New Life Church at an end and despite his agreement never to return to Colorado. Ted Haggard posted a message on his Twitter account announcing his intent to begin public prayer meetings in his Colorado Springs home.   A few weeks later the meetings of the St James Church took place in his barn.

Today,  Ted Haggard  says he is bisexual. He is still married, his wife shares pastoral duties.  In one interview e said he opposed gay “marriage,” but supported domestic partner benefits. His church accepts Gay’s and his congregation has outgrown the barn,

There is something delicious about exposed hypcriporcry.  Someone finally getting their “just deserts”   For four years I wrote about the Crystal Medotdist on this and other platforms.  The man who bought and threw away his meth.  The man who said he was molested as a child.

He was an onion, on every news show, there was something different, we learned something new.   Perhaps he was playing us.  On one show, his family was barely surviving.  In one publication he said, if he were 21, he could Identify as a gay man.

Redemption or Ego?

Today, Ted Haggard is rebuilding and re-branding his life.  His return to Colorado Springs was personal.  The size of the Congregation at New Life Church is around 10,000 , 4000 fewer members than when he pastor.

In a world of second chances, Haggard says he is not gay and do not desire men.

In an interview published in the February 2011 issue of GQ Haggard said, “I think that probably, if I were 21 in this society, I would identify myself as a bisexual,” adding that “Just like you’re a heterosexual but you don’t have sex with every woman that you’re attracted to, so I can be who I am and exclusively have sex with my wife and be perfectly satisfied.

Cell Phone at the Church: Not God’s Work

Pastor admitted taking upskirt photo of woman at Deltona church, report states

By: Jeff Weiner (For the Orlando Sentinel)

A now-former pastor at a  Deltona, Florida  church faces a voyeurism charge, accused of taking an upskirt photo of a woman in his office after a Sunday service, authorities said.

Brian “Rick” Kenyon Jr., 31, faces a felony charge of video voyeurism. He was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on Thursday, but was released that afternoon on $2,500 bail, officials said.

According to an arrest affidavit, the 41-year-old victim told Volusia County sheriff’s deputies the incident happened April 8 at the Deltona Church of Christ on Providence Boulevard.

The woman had watched Kenyon’s children for him during the service. Afterward, she went to his office to turn the kids over to him, but soon realized something was wrong, the affidavit said.

Kenyon seemed nervous and was avoiding eye contact, she said. Then, he asked her to put his youngest child in a car seat.

The woman, who was wearing a sundress, said she bent forward and knelt to secure the child in the seat, but then felt skin brush against her leg, causing her to turn around and yelled.

According to the affidavit, she saw Kenyon kneeling behind her, bent at the waist, with his hand near the bottom of her dress.

When he stood, she said she noticed he was holding his cell phone.

The woman told her husband what had happened, and later enlisted several members of the congregation to help confront Kenyon.

At a meeting, Kenyon denied taking a picture up the woman’s dress, the affidavit said, claiming he was trying to take a picture of his child but dropped the phone between the woman’s legs.

                                        “dark moment”

He did admit having a “pornography problem,” the affidavit said.

However, at a second meeting April 19, Kenyon confessed to taking an upskirt picture of the woman, the affidavit said. He described it as a “dark moment” that came over him, investigators said.

He said he had deleted the photo, the affidavit states.

Church staff confirmed to a sheriff’s detective that Kenyon had been “removed” from the church, and was never in charge of youth programs or given unsupervised contact with chidlren.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 386-943-8276.

Would we have caged the migrant family of Jesus Christ?

“Seeking Asylum in America Today,” a Nativity scene erected by the Parkside Community Church in Sacramento, invites comparisons between the Trump administration’s treatment of migrant families and the treatment of Jesus Christ.

By: Ginger Rutland:  Special to the Sacramento Bee

As I passed Parkside Community Church on my way to my gym on the Fourth of July a powerful tableau caught my attention. Kneeling on the church lawn were the figures of Mary and Joseph penned in a cage constructed of chicken wire. A few feet away, baby Jesus lay in his manger, penned in another chicken wired cage – mother, father and child, separated, unable to touch. A crudely lettered sign next to the cages read, “Seeking Asylum in America Today.”

Survey: 1 in 5 Americans would deny Muslims the right to vote

A minority of Americans believe that many Muslims in the U.S. are not “American” enough, according to a new study by the Democracy Fund Voter  Study Group

They also see little difference between Muslims from other countries and Muslim Americans, “suggesting that ‘Americanness’ alone does not lead to more positive views,” the study of 5,000 respondants found.

Further, nearly 20 percent of those sur-veyed would deny Muslims who are U.S. citizens the right to vote and many would support a temporary ban on Muslims enter-ing the country, according to the study by the Democracy Fund Voter Study Group.

Perceptions split dramatically down party lines, with Democrats believing that more than two-thirds of Muslims wanted to fit in, while Republicans believed only 36 percent did.

Overall, respondents believed only 51 percent of Muslim Americans respect American ideals and laws, and only 56 per-cent want to fit in. While the survey found major partisan lines in how people responded, Republicans and Democrats agreed on three perceptions: Muslims tend to be religious, have outdated views of women and outdated views of gay people.

Muslims were ranked the lowest of any demographic group – just behind feminists, with a score of 48 on a favorability scale in which respondents rated various demo-graphic groups on a scale of 0 to 100.

The perceptions among non-Muslims were inconsistent with how Muslims view themselves, with a large portion saying they consider themselves patriotic. “While these are disturbing perceptions, the survey itself shows that they are not a reflection of reality  in that American

Muslims are well-integrated, patriotic and productive citizens — but are instead a product of misinformation and the active promotion of Islamophobia in our society,” said Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Hooper put the blame squarely on Donald Trump for the overwhelmingly negative perception of Muslims.  The president has been criticized by politicians on both sides of the aisle for his positions on Muslims – including his false statement that he saw thousands of Muslims in New Jersey cheering over the September 11 terrorist attacks.

During the 2016 Republican presidential primary race, Republican Governor Jeb Bush said, “You talk about closing mosques, you talk about registering people  that’s just wrong.”

But reactions like those haven’t deterred the president from imposing policies that restrict people from several majority-Muslim countries from entering the U.S. The number of Muslims living in the United States is projected to double as a share of the U.S. population by 2050, according to the Pew Research Center.

Survey: 1 in 5 Americans would deny Muslims the right to vote

• Those surveyed view many Muslims in the United States as insufficiently “American.” On average, they believe that only 56 percent of Muslim Americans want to fit in and be part of the U.S., and that only 51 percent of Muslim Americans respect American ideals and laws.

• Perceptions of Muslims are strongly related to partisanship and cultural conservatism. For example, on average Democrats believed that a substantial majority of Muslims (67 percent) wanted to fit in, but Republicans believed that only 36 percent did.

• On three dimensions, however, perceptions of Muslims cross partisan and ideological lines: That tend to be religious, outdated views of women and, separately, have outdated views of gays and lesbians.

• There is significant support, especially among Republicans, for policies that would temporarily ban Muslims from entering the country and, for Muslims within this country, subject them to additional surveillance. In fact, almost 20 percent of those surveyed would deny Muslims who are American citizens the right to vote.

• Negative perceptions of Muslim Americans do not match what Muslim Americans themselves believe. For example, large majorities of Muslim Americans express patriotic sentiments

what if he wants to die?

My neighbor approached me yesterday about a neighbor who is in his eighties.   He wants to die she said.  he leaves his door open, he is not eating, his friend is doing everything for him, but he wants to die.  He’s not doing well, he can’t walk without falling down.   I don’t know what to do?   I don’t know his family or who to call?  I thought of you because you seem to know about situations  like this.

I told her I would make a few calls. Perhaps there is an city or county agency that would make a welfare check.   I told her I would call later in the afternoon.

I overslept.

My neighbor came up to my apartment, she was dejected and I could smell alcohol on her breath.   She said, called the management of the apartment complex, she said they were angry that she called. The called the city and various agency.  He was in the Korean war so being a vet, she called the Veterans Administration and they told her, let him die!  (I’m not convinced they said that )   I saw the tears in her eyes, I wanted to hug her, but didnt for some reason.   I told her I am lucky to have a caring neighbor like her in the complex.

As I closed the door to my apartment, I thought to myself.  Do we have the right to prevent a person who wants to die, to die?

I knew two people who committed suicide.  I clearly remember wondering if I could have made a difference, prevented them from killing himself.  Next response was anger and resentment, how cruel and selfish they were.  People loved them, friends family and in one case children, they should have talked to someone!  Told someone!  sought help.  Their choice of suicide will cause a great deal of pain and we will live with this stain of this selfish act !

I cherish life, I love it and think I am blessed every single day, but that is me!

I have no idea of the pain these individuals have, their suffering.  How unbearable it might be for them, day to day, even living in my world.

Maybe its us who are cruel and selfish ones.  We insist they live a life of misery and despair for us.  We insist they hang in there with the endless needles and evasive  procedures for us.

We ignore them and get angry hen they say their tired.  We insist they trust god, when they simply want to go home.

Some of us demand that our love ones live a life of pain.  We pray, we want them to want to live. For Us.

My neighbor was in his early eighties, he lived longer than both of his sons.   Last year was an horrendous year for him.   His beloved small white dog was snatched out of his arms and killed by another dog in front of him.   He is a fixture in the apartment complex.

With his rapidly deteriorating health, I’m not sure I would want to live.  My options would be very few and I wouldn’t want to be a burden on my friends and children.

“What if I want to die?  Am I obligated to live for friends and family?
