Arden Fair Mayhem (Social Media Edition)

Some Policemen and Mall owners have said, The 26th of December the day after Christmas seems to be the one of the most violent days in America’s malls. People are pent up from being with their family,”

Closed schools, social media, the mall and juveniles with nothing to do?   Can be  combustible mix.  The victims: the stores mall owners and terrified shoppers.

Shopping malls have long replaced Downtown’s  as a social gathering place for teenagers.   If its often the place where boys and girls meet for the first time.  It is also the place to settle scores.

For two days, shoppers at Arden Fair Mall, one of the largest malls in the Sacramento Area was terrorized by out of control juveniles in and outside the mall resulting in damages inside the mall and patrons cars in the mall parking lots.

There were many violent events involving juveniles last week in shopping malls across the country.

Some malls across the country have instituted a “Parental escort policy” that requires teens under the age of 18 to be with a parent or guardian who is 21 or over to enter.   Most of the shopping centers have these restrictions only on weekend evenings, but some keep them in place seven days a week.

The “Parental escort policy” used at Shopping Malls in other states may be at odds with  California’s  Unruh Civil Rights Act that specifically outlaws discrimination based on sex, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, age, disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, or sexual orientation.

Gen Z

Generation Z (individuals born between 1995 and 2009) spend nearly 50 billion dollars a year and unlike Millennial’s,Gen Z prefer traditional shopping in stores.   Should Arden Fair place a ban on this group they may simply take their dollars to other area Malls.

Social Media and Pandemonium

Before cell phones and social media. some one would make a couple of calls and tell others there is gonna a fight at 14th and Broadway.  Within minutes, nearly a hundred juvenilles show up at 14th and Broadway to witness the fight.   A prankster might push one juvenile into another juvenile and another fight take place.   A mistaken punch, another fight with spectators becoming participants.

Today, with social media, a single post can reach hundreds with in minutes.

By all accounts, the security at Arden Fair was overwhelmed.

Anticipation

One example of a prepared Mall

Cherry Hills, New Jersey is a suburb of Philadelphia.

On Dec 27 2017, Cherry Hill Mall in New Jersey, noticed more teenagers in the mall than usual.     A week before, Police Chief William “Bud” Monaghan appealed to parents not to leave their teenage children unattended at the mall.   The Police Department and mall management had jointly prepared for trouble, often sparked by social media organization. that they had seen in previous years at the mall.

The Police and mall owners had several meetings to discuss how to handle such situations.  The police department assigned additional officers to the mall and the mall added additional Security Guards.

Police said between 700 and 1,000 juveniles were milling in the evening near the food court hen disturbances broke out.    One fight became several.    In the past, there had been many disruptions and damage to the mall.  But police and mall security officers, anticipating trouble this time of year, were present in large numbers, and the teens were quickly corralled. There was no widespread vandalism and only minimal disruption for shoppers, authorities said Wednesday as merchants lifted their gates for the start of another day of business.

Security and local police departments in many malls, monitor activity on social media.  Adding extra security and police during holidays.

Despite all the warnings, every year shoppers fill the cars with gifts and return to the mall to shop.  Once their shopping is completed they return to an empty car with a broken window.   At an Sacramento area mall yesterday.  The victim thought the security camera would protect their belongings.  His wife, wants the mall to replace the items since the crime happen on their property.   Many of the victims will not take responsibility for their stupidly. These crimes will happen in all the best neighborhoods, shopping malls, hotels, parking garages and airports this weekend. With Common Sense missing in action.

Stupid on Parade

Why brave the crowds at the malls, when people make it so easy for thieves to simply break a window. Everyone at their (the thieves) home will be genuinely surprised at Christmas.

The Hyundai Kona EV is Coming to California

Image result for kona ev

Actually Hyundai’s Kona is already here and is being sold all over the United States and Canada. However, the Kona EV (Electric Vehicle) initially will only be sold in the Golden State.   The New Hyundai’s funky looking subcompact SUV was introduced last spring.

Hyundai Kona (W combustion engine)

Subcompact SUV’s are on fire and the Kona is what the struggling car maker needed.  Hyundai, Kia, Genesis group is car rich and SUV poor at a time when more people are buying SUV’s

Hyundai’s Kona is the first vehicle sold with a combustion engine and an all electric engine.    Hyundai says the Kona will have an electric range of  258 miles, which is higher than Nissan, the new Jaguar, the future Audi E tron and Chevy’s Bolt.  The only electric vehicle has a longer range, is Tesla.

Timing

Pricing for the Kona EV starts at $37,000 before the $7500 Federal Tax Credit (for purchasers of an electric car ).   The Electric Kona should be on sales early next year, however only in California and eventually to the rest of the country.

Tesla’s Model 3 is a bonafide hit. Out selling established players like, the Ford Fusion and the Nissan Altima.  As a result, by the time the Kona hits the market  Tesla buyers tax credit will be cut in half.   Tesla says they plan to sell a basic Model 3, at $35,000 base price, however this model with have a range of 220 miles.

Yes Matilda, an Electic Car is in your future

Like the Model 3,   Kona EV is a hit before it hits showrooms.    Hyundai says, there is currently a 10 month wait for the electric vehicle.  While there isn’t much of a demand for cars these days there is a huge demand for electric vehicles.

Tesla’s Model 3, sold more cars than the entire brand of Mercedes, BMW, and Audi.  The Model 3, is the fifth bestselling car in the US,  only the Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, Honda Accord, and the Toyota Corolla is out selling the Model 3 and the average price of the Model 3 is more than double of those makes.

Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo have committed billions to the Electric market.  Mercedes Benz may jointly build electric cars with Tesla.  Volkswagen and Ford are talking about jointly building electric cars.

Big Man Rides

While I haven’t completed a full test of the combustion Kona, I like the funkyness of the car  But it is a subcompact. Leg room for this 6.4 giant was just ok, and its a narrow vehicle .  It was tolerable but only for small jonts. It put together well and rides well for a subcompact .   For big people the nice driving yet homely Chevy Bolt has more room and the price for the two are nearly the same , however the driving range on the Hyundai is a little longer. Average sized people  wont have issue with the Kona.

As for SUV’s the  Hyundai Kona is exceptional.  Its the only Subcompact SUV that offers two engine choices, and the only Subcompact that offers 4 wheel drive*     *The Kona EV will is only offered as a two wheel drive car.

So if you live in the other 49 states and want a Hyundai Kona EV you’ll have to wait.  and if you live in the Golden State and want a Hyundai Kona EV, you’ll need to zip on down to your nearest Hyundai dealer and leave your deposit. What we learned from the Tesla, the line will only grow longer.

Shopping While Black in Citrus Heights

Image result for raleys grocery

By: Erika D. Smith/Sacramento Bee

The story of Zhalisa Clarke — a black woman who was minding her own business at a Raley’s in Citrus Heights when cashier accused her of shoplifting and called the police — didn’t make national news.

It could have. In fact, it should have.

Like Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson, the black men who, in April, went to a Starbucks for a business meeting and soon found themselves being handcuffed by Philadelphia police, Clarke went to Raley’s for the most innocuous of reasons: to go grocery shopping.

She and a friend, who is Asian American, were headed on an extended camping trip and were stocking up. They spent quite a bit of time wandering the aisles looking for the right food and condiments., and in Clarke’s case, apparently a little too long looking for a vegan spread.

Broke Down Diva

What is a”Broke Down Diva?”

A woman who wants everything her way and nothing else! (Jennie.G)

A Female that expects everything from someone else (Trophy wife) ( Stephanie F)

A pretender, a Diva wanna be, who gets off on belittling others, wants to live the lives of the Rich and famous but she eats at Denny’s and shops at Ross (Wayne. C)

The Sacramento Applebee staff knows who she is.  She visits the restaurant on Friday nights with an entourage (6 to 10 people) during the restaurants busiest period  between 7-8.   She doesn’t want to wait and has on occasion slipped onto table as the patrons were leaving insisting, her table cleaned immediately!   She makes the staff wait, as she inspects the water glasses and if one doesn’t meet her standard then she demands all the glasses replaced.   Everyone food, must meet her standards, or they’re returned.   Ignoring her means DRAMA, something she seems to enjoy.  If doesn’t matter if “A” server has her hands full of hot platters, doesn’t have to be her server.  SHE must be attended to immediately.   Loud disagreements are common place, if she isn’t getting her way!   ” Any in fraction should come with a discount, after all it wasn’t perfect, something she expects every time. She has memorized the customer service number and has complained in the past when her all demands weren’t met!     She openly tells her friends the wait staff  should be thankful that they are receiving a tip from her.    She feels  her 4% or 9% tips are more than generous considering the service!

She arrives at the hotel in her signature gold outfit, with matching purse, polyester on parade.   She wants nothing but the best, her initial tone is pleasing, if she is displeased it becomes shrill.   She arrived at 1am with a story.  Another hotel had her on hold for more than an hour  OMG! OMG! she cried!   She wanted a suite but a suite wasn’t available.  She was appalled! “You don’t have a suite!  (They expected her to say OMG-but she didn’t)   She is expecting a visitor.  She has always stayed in a suite at this hotel.  And her demeanor says she had  never experienced a pedestrian room!    A room without a sofa and amenities!   She reluctantly accepts a “pedestrian room.  A few minutes later, she returns and says she is sick to her stomach.  How could she face her company in such a room?   She calls the reservation line to locate a suite in the greater Sacramento Area, however, she doesn’t want to spend much.  They locate a reasonably priced suite near Cal-Expo that’s 20 dollars more.    She apologizes, and thanks the front desk for not charging her for THAT room.    Oh my gawd!

Tracee is well known to the merchants of this small foothill community.  For her outrageous behavior, demanding discounts and returns.     Some of the cashiers go on a break when she walks in.  She is always over dressed and over perfumed.  She wears stilettos in the rain, everyone knows where she is at all times by the clacking sounds of her shoes. She often keeps the items until the last day they can be returned.   She will argue past closing time.   One supervisor said, I hate to say it, but I think we all hate her.  She goes out of her way to be mean and just nasty!    There is no reason for her to be like that!    If anyone in this town is a Broke Down Diva, Tracee (not her real name) fits the bill.

Market 5 one 5 is just what Sacramento Needs Right Now!

20180515_190816381206666.jpg

Market 5 one 5 opened Tuesday. The store hits all the right buttons for a single and small family professionals living/working in Downtown/Midtown Sacramento.

ONE” is an acronym that references Organic, Nutrition and Education.

Market 5 one 5 is a new division of Raley’s, however it is managed separately.  The store is one fifth the size of the average supermarket in Sacramento. What you wont find is a drug store, bakery and medical offices found in other area supermarkets.  Will find a large selection of organic and healthy choices.

Hungry?  Market 5 one 5 offers hot cooked food, that the customer can scoop up and take home or enjoy their choices at one of the two eating areas in the store along with a glass or beer and wine.

With a butcher on duty, shoppers have the option of choosing a precut meats or selecting a cut.  Fresh Sushi is available as is freshly prepared sandwiches .

Owner Michael Teel calls the Market 5 one 5 a boutique grocery store. I call it a Lifestyle store. Where the shopper has convenient ready to go options healthy options and isn’t likely to encounter the lines of a typical supermarket.

Armed with my trusty fully charged cell phone I took a few pictures on opening day.

Market 5 one 5 is perfect for individual with an active lifestyle its. Its just what the downtown/midtown urban warrior needs
