An anonymous person bought $1 million worth of toys at a Raleigh, North Carolina Toys “R” Us last week and reportedly donated them to children.

Employees at the store said that they spent all of Friday — the last day the toy store chain was in business — boxing up toys for the anonymous buyer and had to get toys from other locations to fill the order.

It’s not clear where the toys were sent.

Packing all those toys required the store to be closed one day early and shoppers hoping to get discounted toys before the store closed were turned away. But when WNCN-TV told them about the donation, would-be customers weren’t disappointed.

“Oh, that’s so nice. I’m happy to hear that,” said customer Erin Sampson.

On Friday, June 29, all Toys ‘R’ Us locations around the country were permanently closed after the chain filed for bankruptcy last summer and failed to find a new buyer to take over operations.

In February, Charlotte, North Carolina’s largest city.  Passed  passed a bill to ban LGBT discrimination. This move outraged members of the Republican Party.

A day before the city council voted Gov. Pat McCrory told city officials in an email that state lawmakers make that immediate action to block the law if it passed.

In a special convened session on March 23,  eleven Democrats and seventy three Republicans in the House Voted for the Law.   In the State Senate thirty two Republicans voted in favor of the law and Democratic Senators walked out. The law was passed late in the night, and signed by the Governor .

Thank You Pat

There was support for this bill in’  many suburban communities and rural areas of the state. Other cities Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh the State Capital passed transgender laws similar to Charlotte it seems Charlotte was the catalysis for the law

Last April, an Elon University poll found that 63 percent of the state’s registered voters dis Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Durham.agreed with the state’s magistrate law. PART II. STATEWIDE CONSISTENCY IN LAWS RELATED TO EMPLOYMENT AND 28 CONTRACTING 29 SECTION 2.1. G.S. 95-25.1 reads as rewritten: 30 Ҥ 95-25.1. Short title and legislative purpose.purpose; local governments preempted

_________________________________________________________________

II: Directly effects the poor, disabled, women, and people of color

_______________________________________________________

The provision  below added a single sentence to a longstanding legislative public policy declaration, a change that experts say unravels North Carolina workers’ right to bring action in state court for workplace discrimination on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, age, sex or disabilities.

_________________________________________________________________

PART III. PROTECTION OF RIGHTS IN EMPLOYMENT AND PUBLIC 21 ACCOMMODATIONS

(Located on page 4)

(a) It is the public policy of this State to protect and safeguard the right and opportunity of

25 all persons to seek, obtain and hold employment without discrimination or abridgement on

26 account of race, religion, color, national origin, age, biological sex or handicap by employers

27 which regularly employ 15 or more employees.

28 (b) It is recognized that the practice of denying employment opportunity and

29 discriminating in the terms of employment foments domestic strife and unrest, deprives the State

30 of the fullest utilization of its capacities for advancement and development, and substantially and

31 adversely affects the interests of employees, employers, and the public in general.

_________________________________________________________________

The section below  effectively wipes out using the policy declaration as a source to back up the right to sue in a state court.   Your only alternative is to sue in Federal Court, which takes longer and could take years.

In federal cases a plaintiff must file a claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission with 180 days while the state allowed three years. A federal case cannot proceed without approval by the EEOC, which can take up to six months to investigate and approve a claim. Once approved, an individual has 90 days to file a case.

“For most people when they are fired they are trying to find ways to pay the bills and take care of their families,” she said. “It’s a traumatic event.”

Fantasia, A Diamond in a dollar store

Ten years ago, the world discovered Fantasia Monique Barrino on American Idol.  She was the contestant with the 100 watt smile. Her smile and personality is infectious she has the rare ability to make the audience feel is if they were in her home.

Fantasia’s performance of Summertime was named amongst AOL’s 2004 list of greatest television moments.  Randy Jackson has called it the best performance in the show’s history. Simon Cowell remarked that she was the best contestant to ever compete in any competition, including the more than seventy Idol champions crowned nationally and internationally since the show began its first global incarnations.

On May 26, 2004 over 65 million votes were cast in order to determine the winner of American Idol.  It wasn’t close, Fantasia  defeated runner-up Diana DeGarmo by 1.3 million votes.

BOOM!

The nineteen year old girl from High Point, North Carolina made an impression.  Fantasia could have come in fourth in the competition and  it would not have mattered.  It seemed everyone wanted to work with her.

She signed with J Records(now RCA) and 19 Entertainment . In June 2004, her first single , “I Believe”, was released. It  debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. This number-one debut made Fantasia the first artist in history to achieve this with a first single.  On the sales chart, the single spent eleven consecutive weeks at number one, giving it the longest consecutive stay on top of that chart for an American Idol contestant. The CD single, “I Believe”, went on to become the top selling single of 2004 in the U.S., and has since been certified double platinum by the CRIA. Barrino also won three Billboard Music Awards for the single. High Point, North Carolina

Her first album Free Yourself, dropped in November 2004. It debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200, selling 240,000 copies in its first week.  “Free Yourself” sold more than two million copies worldwide and was certified Platinum in the U.S.  Fantasia was the first artist of any kind to simultaneously hold the top two spots of the top three on Billboard’s Hot Adult R&B Airplay . Her single, “Truth Is” spent fourteen weeks at the number one position.  She was named the number-one artist of the Adult Urban Contemporary format for 2005.

Go to Girl

Fantasia appeal is generational.  Your grandmother may not be familiar with Nicki Minaj but she has  heard of Fantasia.   Her performances have moved many veteran performers .

Her performance appeared to move Elton John at the 2004 Kennedy Center Honors

Not enough cameras…..  Diana Ross, and the audience she owned. 2006 UNICEF Tribute to Stevie Wonder

In April 2007 , Fantasia took the role of Celie in the play “The Color Purple.

While playing the role, Fantasia earned rave reviews for her performance.  The New York Times critic Charles Isherwood said:  She’s pretty terrific. So terrific that this earnest but mechanical musical is more effective and affecting than it was when it yawned open a year and a half ago at the Broadway Theater. In the central role of the downtrodden Celie, whose long trudge to emotional fulfillment the musical traces, Fantasia exudes a sweetness, simplicity and honesty that gives it a core of authentic feeling.

New York Post critic Clive Barnes said, “… there is some elemental quality to Fantasia that is either greatness or something close to it.”

Fantasia was initially scheduled for a limited six-month engagement ending in October 2007 but had her run extended until January 6, 2008. The Color Purple box office saw a thirty-four-million-dollar jump in sales since  she started in the show, a third of the play’s 100 million dollar earning since its debut in 2005.

The New York Post reported that she missed nearly fifty performances in the show, causing the producers to give back tens of thousands of dollars in refunds. In the September 2008 issue of Sister 2 Sister magazine, Barrino revealed that the reason for her absences in The Color Purple was because of the development of a cyst on her vocal cords. She was ordered to immediately undergo surgery which later revealed that she in fact had a tumor on her vocal cords.

Tasia rocked Aretha, Chaka Kahn and slayed Patti LaBelle in 2009. The following video is one of my all time favorites.  Tasia performance (3.37) of Lady Marmalade transported Patti to another place.

Moving……

Too Much Talent for one box?

Well before the 2004 American Idol season ended, there were many veterans artist and producers wanting to work with Tasia. Her roots where in Gospel, she could sing Rock, Jazz and R&B.   Unfortunately, the music industry demands you choose a box.  If your a Gospel singer, a R&B record could alienate your fans.

Fantasia signed with Simon Fuller’s 19 Entertainment and J Records.  The company which produces the show and is said to force heavy contracts on top “Idol” finalists.

In 2008, Fantasia was dropped from 19 Entertainment because of creative differences.

Former contestants Clay Aiken, Mario Vasquez and Kelly Clarkson resorted to hiring high-powered attorneys to get out of their ironclad contracts with 19 Entertainment. Most of their discontent had to do with the company’s manager, Simon Fuller.

Her first performance on American Idol after signing with J Records was a disaster.  She  came out in a wifebeater and tight shorts.  Her haircolor had a strange tint to it.  The dancing was manic she disappeared into some seconded rate hoohy show ,she really didn’t look well. The Look on Cowells face was priceless WTF?

A Diamond in a Dollar Store

Fantasia is a force, she is a natural performer with outstanding musical instincts.  In short time she has earned the respect of veteran performers.

While she has had some successful songs, most of the music in my opinion is beneath her.  A lot of the music sound alike, and I believe the songs chosen for her limits her appeal.

The issue is management.

Fantasia needs a manager, producer someone who can utilize her natural ability and broaden her appeal.  As Clive Davis did for Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin.

Tasia isn’t Beyonce, who is an extremely talented performer.  Tasia is an entertainer., while I’m not sure if Beyonce will be here when she is 50’s as there are a few Aretha’s, Madonna’s, Cher’s Dionne Warwick’s and Patti LeBelle’s.  I do believe Tasia will be.

“If you let me suck your toe I’ll pay for your Groceries”

By CityFella:

31 year old Michael Anthony Brown  of North Carolina loves feet, he is especially passionate about toes.       PASSIONATE!

He love toes soooo much, he’s done jail time.  Not once, but several times. He is a sex offender….. According to North Carolina records, Brown was placed on the state’s sex offender registry in mid-2004 following his release from prison (he served time for an “attempted rape or attempted sex offense” conviction).

On to da feet

Last week in a Lincolnton, North Carolina Walmart.  (yes a Walmart)  Michael struck up a conversation with a 35 year woman about shoes. WHERE!  he talked the woman into trying on several pairs of  shoes.   THE WOMAN, believed he was a Walmart EMPLOYEE!

(Side-friggin-Bar:  A question for  those people who have ever shopped in Wal Mart or K-Mart.  When did they ever employee people in their shoe departments?)

While helping the woman try on shoes, Brown allegedly took her foot, placed it in his mouth, and “began to suck on the victim’s toes.” When the woman became upset, Brown allegedly offered to pay for her groceries, according to police. Brown can be seen entering the Lincolnton Walmart in the below store surveillance photo.

Michael was caught by a Police Officer in another town who recognized him from the Walmart surveillance photo.  Michael was booked into jail on a felony count, Brown is being held in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond.

Hey Mike, come to California.   All yon need is a sign and cash.   Let them know up front.   BTW have you considered a burly man ? We need food too.

The what’s that again file? ” Mayor Kevin Johnson is heading to North Carolina to campaign for Obama”

Perhaps our mayor is well known in North Carolina.

We have to imagine there will be a media frenzy when he steps off the plane.

Someone within the Obama administration said, after you call Bill call Kevin.

We need him to invigorate the party!   To drive our message home!

Perhaps we have all under estimated his abilities as a leader.

He is waiting for the Kings Regular Season to begin

SOP (Stupid on Parade) Man leaves t-shirt with his picture at crime scene

Jonathan Huntley is a handsome man, the 25 year old felon spent six years of his young life locked in a North Carolina Prison for armed robbery and breaking and entering.  He was released from the big house in November.

Inspired the brainiac used an old mug shot for the picture with the slogan (clearly an English Major) “Making Money is My Thang”

His  chosen profession is breaking and entering , he is one of two suspects, in a home invasion last week in Charlotte.   Mr Huntley’s tee fell out of the getaway car near the home.   His tee shirt appeared on the local tv show “Crime Stoppers”.  Mr Huntley fearing the jig was up surrendered to the police the following day.

Charged with  robbery and breaking and entering with force, both felonies, Huntley is being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.

It appears like  after six or seven months Mr Huntley will return to the Big House.

What will happen to the Tee?- After all he was just doin his “Thang”
